Excitement Builds for the XXX Rally of Antigua
This Friday, 5th September, from the square in Antigua at 20:30, motorsport enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get up close to the more than twenty vehicles entered in the ceremonial start of the XXX Rally of Antigua. Attendees will be able to interact and converse with some of the best drivers and co-drivers from the Canary Islands.
Celebrating 30 Years of Rallying
The Mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña, noted that this year marks 30 years since local rally veteran Aníbal Hernández first took to the starting line. The former Champion of the Canary Islands will be racing in his revived car, copilotting with another well-known local champion, Rubén Pérez.
Local Talent Competing
Among the local participants, the renowned team of Manuel Gutiérrez and Tino Vega will be making their comeback, poised to challenge the current Champions of the Canary Islands in Rallys de Tierra, Cristian Calderín and Verónica Tejeda. They will also face the experienced duo of Juan Carlos Quintana, the 2022 Spanish Champion, and Jonathan Hernández, a young co-driver boasting 22 years in the sport.
A Collaborative Effort
The XXX Rally of Antigua celebrates its successful editions and the unity of the island’s clubs, setting an example for all of the Canary Islands, stated council member Samuel Torres Mesa. It is the collaborative effort of these clubs that organises this edition, with support and funding from the Ayuntamiento de Antigua, the backing of the Canary Islands and Las Palmas Automobile Federations, and the assistance of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.
