Iberia Express has announced a significant expansion of its operations in the Canary Islands, introducing nearly 30,000 additional seats between October 2025 and January 2026. This expansion equates to a 5% increase in capacity compared to the airline’s initial schedule.
This move is particularly timely for the archipelago, arriving just days after rival airline Ryanair confirmed it would cut 400,000 seats on its routes to the Canary Islands.
How the Capacity Increase Will Be Achieved
The airline will enhance its capacity by:
- Operating 116 extra flights during the four-month period.
- Making over 150 aircraft changes, introducing larger Airbus A321neo aircraft to increase available seating.
With this initiative, Iberia Express aims to reaffirm its commitment to connectivity for residents of the Canary Islands, while also promoting less seasonal, more sustainable, and responsible tourism.
Focus on Tenerife and Gran Canaria
The majority of seat increases will be concentrated in the main inter-island hubs:
- Tenerife North (Los Rodeos): Capacity will increase by more than 15,000 additional seats, with up to 8 daily flights to Madrid during the winter season.
- Tenerife South: An increase of nearly 850 additional seats will allow for 3 daily flights.
- Gran Canaria: Capacity has expanded by 8,300 additional seats, supported by 42 extra flights, allowing for up to 10 daily flights to Madrid.
Other Islands Benefit Too
In addition to the two main hubs, Iberia Express has also enhanced operations in:
- Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and La Palma, collectively receiving 4,500 extra seats for the upcoming season.
