The Cabildo of Lanzarote has unveiled the promotional poster for the 36th Craft Fair, one of the most highly anticipated cultural and commercial events in the Archipelago. This year, the image pays tribute to the traditional soletas, a popular type of footwear that is part of the island’s ethnographic heritage.
The presentation event took place at the headquarters of the insular Corporation, attended by the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, the Councillor for Crafts, Aroa Revelo, and the Councillor for Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío.
The soletas, traditionally made from rubber and readily available materials, were for decades an integral part of daily life in Lanzarote. Their simplicity and durability turned them into symbols of ingenuity, hard work, and collective memory. In previous editions, the fair’s poster has been inspired by other elements of the island’s rich heritage; this 2025 edition highlights this iconic footwear.
“Craftsmanship is the creative response to everyday needs, and the soletas embody this essence in a humble yet historically significant way,” emphasised Councillor Aroa Revelo. Meanwhile, Councillor for Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío, noted that the fair “transcends the commercial: it is a living showcase of the heritage we must pass on to new generations.”
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasised that with each edition “we strengthen our commitment to artisans and the preservation of an identity that sets us apart both within and outside of the Canary Islands.”
The 36th Craft Fair of Lanzarote will take place in Mancha Blanca (Tinajo) from 10th to 14th September. The complete programme of activities will be announced next week.
