The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, signed a contract worth €1.8 million with the UTE Horinsa – Excavaciones Tiagua on Tuesday, whereby the contractor commits to carrying out the sanitation works for the village of Uga within eleven months, according to the technical specifications of the project. This project includes the construction of a sewage network and the installation of two underground pumping stations. The southern mayor states that “the project was drafted by the Council and we secured co-financing to execute it with the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of the Government of Spain.”
The mayor previously met with the village last May to explain the scope of the works along with the Councillor for Works, Ángel Lago, and a municipal technician. Residents and businesses will not need to carry out any work outside their properties, but they will have to redirect the wastewater currently going to the septic tank to a point near the facade of the house or establishment where the connection to the sewage network will be made, with prior agreement between the contractor and the property owner.
It is worth noting that the Uga project does not include a treatment plant because the wastewater will be pumped to the station in Puerto del Carmen, an action that is part of another project to be carried out by supramunicipal administrations, including the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canaries.
The actions in Uga will allow for the collection and pumping of wastewater from homes and businesses for treatment, ensuring that the work is conducted in accordance with required quality, safety, and efficiency standards. “We will promote a meeting with the UTE and the village to inform them about the work plan that, for example, the residents of El Golfo are keen to hear about as they await the commencement of the sewage works awarded by the Cabildo,” concludes Óscar Noda.
