Granadilla de Abona is preparing for a very special celebration this summer to mark the 30 years of the Folklore Exhibition of the Towns, an event that has established itself as a cornerstone of the summer cultural programming in Sansofé.
From 18 to 24 August, the Plaza de El Médano will once again be filled with rhythms, dances, and colours from various parts of the world.
In this anniversary edition, the municipality will welcome recognised international groups such as the Municipal Folkloric Ballet of Rancagua (Chile) and the Huayra Muyoj Ballet (Argentina). These ensembles will share the stage with local groups A.C. and Folkloric Verseadores de Acorán and A.F. and Cultural Guarache, along with the folklore associations of the municipality and the traditional dances from Las Vegas, Chimiche, and Charco del Pino.
The mayor, José Domingo Regalado, emphasises that “celebrating 30 years of this exhibition is celebrating our history, our roots, and the bond with other towns through music and dance.”
Moreover, Regalado highlights that “Granadilla de Abona reaffirms its commitment to culture as a driver of unity, identity, and celebration, inviting everyone to experience a magical week where folklore becomes a universal language,” and places special emphasis on the participation of Ben Guajara, the group from Charco del Pino that founded the Exhibition.
According to the Councillor for Culture, Carlos Abismael Díaz Barreto, “this festival is a source of pride for the municipality; it is a space for coexistence and cultural exchange that we have established as one of the most cherished events of our summer. This year we have a luxury programme that reflects our commitment to culture and tradition.”
The councillor also announced that on Friday 22, a special surprise will unfold with the original group from Ben Guajara, founders of the Folklore Exhibition 30 years ago, inviting the public to enjoy one of the most emotional nights of the celebration.
The programme includes folkloric performances and parallel activities, such as tango and chacarera classes, traditional Canarian dance workshops, the Artisan Fair of Argentina and Chile, and traditional dance gatherings.
The closing event, scheduled for 24 August, will be led by the legendary Tenerife group Los Sabandeños, who are celebrating their 60th anniversary.
