The president of the government interrupts his holiday in Lanzarote to gain firsthand knowledge of the firefighting efforts
The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, is interrupting his holiday in Lanzarote to travel this Sunday to the provinces of Ourense and León, where he will meet with the heads of the emergency and coordination teams working to control the forest fires.
Sánchez, who is currently staying at the Royal Residence of La Mareta in Costa Teguise, had chaired a videoconference meeting of the State Coordination and Management Committee of the State Emergency Plan and initially had no plans to leave the island. However, sources from Moncloa confirmed that he will ultimately travel to gain firsthand experience of the firefighting efforts.
The head of the Executive will make a statement from an advanced command post, the location of which will be communicated in the coming hours for security reasons. According to the Government, throughout the next week, Sánchez also plans to visit other areas affected by the fires.
Meeting with Clavijo this Monday
It is expected that this Monday, Pedro Sánchez and Fernando Clavijo will meet at the Cabildo of Lanzarote, where they will discuss issues such as the distribution of migrant minors, regional financing, and the State’s pending commitments with the Canary Islands. The agenda has not yet been changed, so for now, the meeting remains scheduled.
