From Nueva Canarias–Bloque Canarista, we firmly denounce the statements made by Councillor Adargoma Hernández regarding the water supply in Fuerteventura. While thousands of residents continue to suffer from cuts or drops in water pressure in their homes, the councillor insists that “the networks are normalised,” as if nothing is wrong. NC–BC calls for accountability regarding the lack of water in Fuerteventura.

The reality is very different. In many areas of the island, water cuts continue. In Villaverde, they have been experiencing constant interruptions for 2 months, and in Ampuyenta, for weeks. All this is happening while we are going through another episode of extreme heat, with more expected in the remainder of the summer. This is an unsustainable situation, exacerbated by the silence and passivity of those who should be providing solutions.

The CAAF is taking the public for a ride while systematically failing to fulfil its obligations regarding the supply. It is unacceptable that in the height of summer, with temperatures above 35 degrees, people have to endure continuous cuts, lack of information, and an absolute lack of institutional respect.

And we ask ourselves:

What has been the point of the declaration of island-wide water emergency and its extensions if we are in the same situation?

What value has been gained from the more than fifty million euros of public funds spent in recent years on hydraulic works?

What is the real purpose of the CAAF if this continues to happen year after year?

How have the more than thirteen million euros annually that the CAAF itself acknowledges as water expenditure been spent?

It is clear that the greatest structural problem facing Fuerteventura is the manifest ineptness in water management.

The Cabildo knew this could happen. It is not a new problem. It happens every summer: the population increases, tourism grows, and the network cannot cope. But nothing serious has been done to anticipate this. The lack of planning is absolute.

The President of the Cabildo promised that this would not happen again. But it has happened again. And the institutional response remains the same: excuses, delays, and empty promises.

More than 30 years of Asamblea Majorera governance is the underlying reason that this island has no planning at all, is in disarray, and functions haphazardly.

From Nueva Canarias–Bloque Canarista, we state clearly: fewer excuses, more planning. Fuerteventura cannot continue like this. The public deserves respect, real solutions, and management that meets their needs.
