Canary Islands: Pre-alert Situation Due to High Temperatures

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, has declared a pre-alert situation for high temperatures across the Canary Islands, starting from 08:00 hours today, Tuesday 19th August.

Areas Affected:

Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma (in the eastern half in areas located above 600 metres altitude and in the western half above 400 metres), as well as El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria in areas situated above 600 metres in the north and above 400 metres in the rest of the slopes.

Observations:

The heat episode persists in the interior, midlands, and high areas, especially on the western and southern slopes of the islands with the highest relief.

Maximum temperatures could reach and/or exceed 30-34°C.

Advice for the Public:

Residents are urged to follow the self-protection advice provided by the General Directorate of Emergencies.
