A new video shared by the account Tenerife Neighbour Complaints has once again highlighted road safety on the southern motorway (TF-1). The footage, recorded on Tuesday, 19th August, shows two traffic violations occurring at different points along the route, just a few kilometres apart.

In the first instance, a young person is seen riding an electric scooter without a helmet on the hard shoulder of the motorway near Arona. This behaviour is not only illegal but also poses extreme risk to both the rider and other vehicles in the area.

The second violation captured in the video involves a motorbike improperly overtaking on the hard shoulder near Guaza, heading towards Adeje. This manoeuvre is prohibited by traffic regulations and increases danger on a highly congested stretch of road.

Risk to Safety

The circulation of electric scooters on motorways and dual carriageways is prohibited in Spain, as is the use of the hard shoulder for overtaking motor vehicles. Both actions are considered serious violations by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and can result in substantial fines as well as points being deducted from the driving licence in the case of motorbikes.

The video has sparked a great deal of criticism on social media, where users highlight the recklessness and lack of responsibility of those involved in such acts. Neighbourhood associations are emphasising the need to enhance surveillance and road safety education to prevent behaviours that endanger the lives of all road users.
