Preseason Kicks Off for CB Puerto del Carmen – Lanzarote News

The women’s División de Honor Oro team of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen kicked off their pre-season on Monday, aiming to achieve a strong performance in the upcoming season.

The pre-season began with few new faces within the team, including Andrea Guerrero among the players, Jesús Casanova as the head coach, and Sonia González as the assistant coach.

The first event of the pre-season at the Municipal de Tías commenced with a heartfelt minute of silence in memory of Mario Hernández Barrios, a worker at the Tías Town Council who recently passed away.

Toño Cedrés took charge of the team’s inaugural match, which will start the season in Andalusia against Rahi-Sepisur Córdoba at the IDM Fuensanta venue. Known as Adesal Córdoba, the Andalusian team finished last season in fifth place in the Liga Oro with 32 points, achieving fourteen victories, four draws, and eight losses.

In the first match between the Andalusians and the conejeros, held in Córdoba on 1 December 2024, the home side triumphed (29-16). Meanwhile, in the return match at the Municipal de Tías at the end of March, the game was more closely contested, ending in a narrow victory for the Andalusians (23-25).

The Córdoba team has planned a pre-season filled with several friendly matches against CB Pozuelo de Calatrava, Ikasa Balonmano, and a semi-final in the Copa Andalucía in Málaga on 13 September. They will aim for the final on 20 September in Almería, where they hope to defend their title, followed by a final encounter against Pozuelo on 21 September.

The team from Fuensanta, coached by Rafa Moreno, has signed two players from Deza Córdoba BM: Argentine winger Camila Bonazzola and pivot Mari Miranda. Additionally, they have secured goalkeepers Inma García (Porriño) and Yarke Moreno, as well as central player Carla Montero (Ikasa Madrid). The most exciting summer news for the Córdoba side was the world championship title in beach handball won by their player Zoe Turnes with the Argentine national team. The Kamikazes from Argentina defeated Germany in the grand final after previously overcoming Portugal, Croatia, and China in the group stage, Vietnam in the quarter-finals, and Spain in a dramatic semi-final decided by shoot-outs.

The new Tiñoso coach, Jesús Casanova, expressed his enthusiasm at the start of the pre-season, stating, “I am excited, as one cannot be any other way, hoping for a season that we expect to be tough, but also promising. We hope to do solid work, helping the girls grow in their personal development because this season we will have a very young team, perhaps overly young. However, we believe we have enough quality to achieve our objective, which must be survival.”

Casanova acknowledged that, besides Andrea’s signing, “another girl will join us this weekend; we will see how she fits into our game and if she feels comfortable within the group. On Monday, we will know if we can count on another player. For now, we will focus on the typical pre-season activities: sweating, sweating, and more sweating under Toño’s guidance, who will certainly push them hard to get fit as soon as possible because, I reiterate, this will be a tough season. We will need to defend and run a lot, making every match physically demanding to have any chance of winning,” concluded the Tiñoso coach.
