PSOE of Lanzarote Condemns Hate Campaign by Hazte Oír

The PSOE condemns Hazte Oír’s hate campaign and reminds us that “Lanzarote has shown at the polls that it denounces hate campaigns.”

The PSOE of Lanzarote has condemned the hate campaign orchestrated by the far-right platform Hazte Oír in a press release on Tuesday. They emphasised that “Lanzarote has shown at the polls that it rejects hate campaigns.”

Political Response

Maria Dolores Corujo stated, “While the far right thrives on hatred, both Lanzarote and the Canary Islands embraced a politics of rights, respect, and democracy.”

The PSOE expressed their discontent with the propaganda event held near La Mareta Residence, where Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is currently on holiday.

For the socialists, this provocative action does “not represent Lanzarote or the Canary Islands” and is part of the “coordinated noise from the far right and its media satellites intent on poisoning political life.”

A Welcoming Land

Corujo noted, “Lanzarote is a welcoming, diverse, and respectful land that has proven at the polls that it suffers and rejects hate speech. In the recent general elections, the Socialist Party was the most voted in both Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, precisely because we embody a way of doing politics based on rights, coexistence, and the defence of the common good.”

She linked Hazte Oír’s actions to a “climate of tension that some have been trying to impose in Lanzarote” for some time, referencing the “ridiculous and unfortunate comments” from the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, and the president of the PP in Lanzarote, who have not hesitated to use the Prime Minister’s holiday to sow discord, disinformation, and division.

Respect for Democracy

“The fact that Pedro Sánchez is spending a few days of rest in La Mareta should not upset anyone who respects democracy, especially considering that this is an official State residence,” added the socialist leader.

The PSOE of Lanzarote defends the right of all individuals, including public authorities, to rest freely without being targeted by orchestrated campaigns from radical organisations that have repeatedly shown their disdain for democratic values.

“What should concern us as a society,” Corujo concluded, “is the rise of intolerance disguised as freedom of expression, and the normalisation of discourses that seek only to divide and confront.”
