Two Arrested for Luxury Goods Theft in Fuerteventura
The Guardia Civil at the Main Post of Morro Jable has arrested two individuals in Fuerteventura, accused of stealing luxury items valued at approximately €16,000 from a well-known brand store. The robbery, which occurred at the end of June in a bustling shopping area, had raised concerns within the island’s business community.
The alert was triggered by the store’s alarm centre, which recorded two individuals dressed entirely in black with hoods, loading watches, clothing, and sunglasses into bin bags. By the time the patrol arrived at the scene, the culprits had already fled without a trace.
Investigation Reveals Planned Operation
Investigations led by the Morro Jable Research Area revealed that the theft was not a spur-of-the-moment decision but rather a premeditated operation. The suspects exploited the poor condition of the door locks to gain entry into the store, resulting in the theft of 113 pairs of sunglasses, 21 watches, and 27 items of clothing from renowned brands.
The agents’ work included analysing footage from both the affected store and neighbouring businesses, alongside discreet surveillance. After weeks of investigation, the suspects’ residential area was narrowed down, enabling the identification of their home and subsequent detention.
The arrestees, along with the gathered evidence, were placed at the disposal of the duty court in Puerto del Rosario. The Guardia Civil emphasised that this operation not only clarified a crime against property and social order but also restored peace to the affected commercial environment.
The investigation remains open with the aim of recovering all stolen items, and additional arrests related to this incident have not been ruled out.
