SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Officers from the National Police have dismantled a criminal organisation dedicated to human trafficking for sexual exploitation, facilitating illegal immigration, and coercive prostitution operating in the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz on the island of Tenerife.
The investigation commenced in January of this year when it was identified that the primary sexual exploitation activities were led by three women. These individuals were responsible for transporting vulnerable victims from Venezuela to Spain for profit, as stated by the security forces in a press release.
The operation was launched in July when authorities became aware that one of the suspects was planning to leave the country from Tenerife South Airport, leading to her arrest. The other two suspects had fled to the mainland and were located in the province of Segovia.
To conclude the investigation, searches were conducted at two residences: one in Puerto de la Cruz where prostitution was taking place, which yielded computers and documentation related to the investigation, and another in Segovia, where two of the suspects were arrested.
After being brought before the courts, imprisonment was ordered for the two detained women, while a third has been released on bail with charges.
