Success at the San Ginés Wooden Ball Tournament in Arrecife
Las Atrevidas and San Ginés emerged victorious in a tournament that attracted nearly a hundred participants as part of the San Ginés Festival.
High Participation in the Mini Wooden Ball Tournament
The Mini Wooden Ball Tournament of the San Ginés Festival, organised by the Senior Citizens’ Department of the Arrecife City Council, concluded successfully with a festive atmosphere. The competition, held in front of the Civic Centre in the San Francisco Javier district, attracted nearly a hundred players.
In the female category, the team Las Atrevidas won the championship, followed by Las Especiales and Las Conejeras, who secured second and third places respectively. In the male category, the victory went to San Ginés, while Puente de las Bolas and Democracia completed the podium in second and third positions.







Institutional Appreciation for Participants
The Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Festivals, Echedey Eugenio, and the Councillor for Senior Citizens, Rosmen Quevedo, expressed their gratitude to all participating teams for their involvement and commitment, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie that defines this popular tradition.
“It is gratifying to see how these types of activities not only enhance our festivities but also promote community involvement and keep our traditions alive,” the councillors stated.
Towards the XXIV Abuelos Conejeros Tournament
Following the success of the Mini Tournament, the sporting events will continue with the XXIV Wooden Ball Tournament “Abuelos Conejeros”, organised by the Cabildo de Lanzarote in collaboration with the island’s municipalities. This championship will be held on the same courts in San Francisco Javier, solidifying this area as one of the main meeting points for the practice of wooden ball in Arrecife.

The Canarian ball is one of the most deeply rooted sporting traditions in Lanzarote and the rest of the archipelago. Events like the Mini San Ginés Tournament help keep this ancestral game alive while strengthening social ties and passing on values between generations.
