Endesa, through its network subsidiary e-distribution, will establish a new transformation centre in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, aimed at bolstering the capacity of the electrical grid during peak demand periods.

The details of the project and other planned interventions to enhance supply were discussed last Wednesday at the southern town hall, during a meeting attended by Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, councillor for Public Services and Works, Environment and Beaches; María Candelaria Rodríguez, councillor for Safety, Urban Development, Procurement and Animal Welfare; along with technical representatives from e-distribution, Ángeles Durán and Moisés Hernández.

The new centre, which will serve approximately 300 customers, aims to prevent supply interruptions during high-demand episodes, such as consumption spikes caused by heatwaves. Granadilla de Abona is also one of the municipalities on the island of Tenerife that has seen demographic growth in recent years. The town hall expressed a commitment to expedite all administrative procedures, including the granting of permits, so that construction can be completed as soon as possible.

Land Acquisition

The e-distribution technicians proposed that the town hall allocate land for the construction of this third transformation centre, ideally situated close to the two existing centres in the Los Llanos area. The council pledged to review this request.

Additionally, e-distribution representatives noted that several projects are currently underway in the municipality aimed at optimising service. Among these is the replacement of up to 33 metal supports, of which 12 have already been completed, as well as the renewal of overhead conductors in the medium-voltage line connecting Los Abrigos and El Médano, with a total investment of €500,000. Moreover, an investment of €100,000 is planned to replace underground medium-voltage conductors and to increase electrical capacity in the urban area of El Médano, work that is already in progress.

Furthermore, the town hall has been asked for permission to install a new underground medium-voltage line between La Jaquita, Ensenada Pelada, and El Médano, with the objective of strengthening supply in that area, with a budget of €600,000.

Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, councillor for Municipal Services and Works, highlighted that “the meeting was very positive, as it allowed us to convey community concerns and, at the same time, gain first-hand insight into the company’s plans to enhance service.”

In a similar vein, Candelaria Rodríguez emphasised that “the quality of electrical supply is essential for the urban and economic development of Granadilla, and we appreciate Endesa’s willingness to continue working on improvements that directly benefit the residents.”
