The Cabildo Collaborates with La Laguna City Council to Control Access in El Púlpito and La Atalaya
Chains and barriers will be installed to preserve these natural spaces
The Cabildo de Tenerife is collaborating with the La Laguna City Council to manage access to the El Púlpito, La Atalaya, and surrounding areas with the aim of preserving these natural spaces. On Thursday 21st, Blanca Pérez, the councillor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, and Security and Emergencies; Pedro Millán, the island director of Natural Environment; Fran Hernández, the second deputy mayor and councillor for Municipal Services and Citizen Participation; and Domingo Galván, the councillor for Environment, visited the area along with technicians from both administrations to review the works, which include the installation of chains and barriers.
Blanca Pérez stated, “This collaboration is being carried out at the request of the La Laguna City Council to manage access to areas that lead to natural spaces. The goal is to preserve the environmental values of these important lagoon areas.”
Fran Hernández explained that “local residents informed us that these areas are being used by motor vehicles, which causes degradation of the space and also jeopardises the safety of people traversing them. We appreciate the assistance from the Cabildo in improving the management of these areas.” The initiative involves an investment of approximately 10,000 euros, funded by the Insular Corporation.
Both the Cabildo de Tenerife and the La Laguna City Council urge the public to make rational use of natural spaces, respecting environmental values and avoiding actions and behaviours that could pose risks to individuals or harm flora and fauna.
