Meeting Held to Address Local Community Demands in Tías

Juan de León, joined by several members of the Local Committee, conveyed various demands to Nicolás Saavedra, gathered from both social groups and residents of the municipality.

The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in Tías met with the Councillor for Social Welfare and Deputy Mayor of the Council, Nicolás Saavedra, to discuss various demands from local associations as well as residents, aiming to collaborate in the search for joint solutions.

One of the most pressing requests conveyed was for support for the LGTBI community. The canaristas sought information on the status of the agreement signed between the Council and the LGTBI groups of Lanzarote, which included the creation of a reivindicative mural on the facade of Tías Town Hall and a painted bench in Puerto del Carmen, featuring a QR code with information and resources on discrimination-free zones.

NC-bc spokesperson Juan de León expressed concern over the current deterioration of both the mural on the Town Hall facade and the bench in Puerto del Carmen, which are suffering from a lack of maintenance and even exhibit offensive graffiti that undermines the spirit of the initiative. The councillor Saavedra was also asked to seek necessary solutions to restore the mural and ensure the bench remains in good condition, thus preserving its symbolic and reivindicative value.

Additionally, attention was drawn to the concerns of numerous residents in Tías regarding the management of the local cat colonies. Key demands included population control, the continuation of neutering campaigns, appropriate feeding, and the need to regulate the actions of unauthorised individuals who visit these colonies.

The councillor acknowledged the complexity of the situation but reported that controls, neutering, and feeding efforts are ongoing. He emphasised the importance of fostering public awareness so that everyone can contribute to the responsible care of the feline colonies and prevent uncontrolled expansion.

NC-bc Tías would like to thank Councillor Nicolás Saavedra for his willingness and attention, and they hope that, within municipal capabilities, solutions can be found to the issues and demands raised by Tías residents and groups.
