The southern locality will serve as a reference point for the gastronomic world and local majorero products
The historic centre of the southern town of Tuineje will host Agrofuer, an initiative aimed at boosting the economy of inland areas by promoting local products, traditional crafts, and the culture of the island’s rural zones.
This proposal seeks to economically invigorate this more rural area, which is distanced from conventional tourist routes. It is part of the ‘Fuerte por Naturaleza’ programme, championed by the Ministry of Tourism and financed by European Next Generation EU funds.
The project is a collaborative effort between the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the island’s Chamber of Commerce, which signed an agreement on 6 August to align the growth of the tourism sector with the development of rural communities.
Music, gastronomy, local products, and culture will be the cornerstones of this inaugural edition of Agrofuer, where the finest island products will be showcased alongside the island’s top chefs, complemented by the vibrant cultural offerings of Tuineje.
Additionally, Fuerteventura’s craft industry will take centre stage over the two days of Agrofuer, featuring leading artisans in various spaces throughout the fair. The event will also be enriched by two workshops on traditional crafts, conducted by majorero artisans.
This gathering is set to delight both residents and visitors, celebrating the island’s unique identity while valuing local products and the tireless efforts of those who, from humble beginnings, have transformed aridity into culture and flavour.
