The 36th Artisan Fair of Lanzarote, a hallmark of the Canary Islands, now has its promotional poster

The Cabildo dedicates this edition’s image to traditional soletas, an icon of the island’s cultural heritage

The areas of Artisanry and Culture of the institution presided over by Oswaldo Betancort will soon present the 36th edition of this significant cultural and commercial event, which will take place this year from 10th to 15th September in Mancha Blanca (Tinajo)

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its Artisanry and Culture departments, has unveiled the promotional poster for the 36th Artisan Fair of Lanzarote, one of the highlights of the cultural and commercial calendar in the Canary Islands. The design draws inspiration from traditional soletas, a popular footwear that has accompanied the island’s daily life for generations.

The presentation event, held at the insular corporation’s headquarters, was attended by the Artisanry Councillor, Aroa Revelo; the Culture Councillor, Jesús Machín Tavío; and the President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort.

As in previous editions, the fair’s poster has been dedicated to an element of Lanzarote and La Graciosa’s rich ethnographic heritage. This year, the spotlight is on the soletas, a humble yet resilient type of footwear made from rubber and other readily available materials, which has been an integral part of many families’ lives. Beyond its practical function, it represents ingenuity, resilience, and the collective memory of the islands.

Aroa Revelo, the Artisanry Councillor, highlighted that, “this poster pays tribute to a simple yet memory-laden element that reflects the essence of artisanry as a resource to meet everyday needs.”

Meanwhile, Jesús Machín Tavío, the Culture Councillor, emphasised that “the fair is not only a commercial meeting place but also a living showcase of the cultural heritage that defines us, which we must pass on to future generations.”

The President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, reiterated that “with each edition, the Cabildo reaffirms its commitment to artisans and the preservation of an identity that differentiates us both within and outside the Canary Islands.”

The 36th Artisan Fair of Lanzarote will open its doors in Mancha Blanca (Tinajo) on Wednesday, 10th September, and will be open until Monday, 15th September, until 21:30. Full details of the programme will be presented next week.
