The City Council of La Laguna, through the Department of Works and Infrastructures, will undertake several asphalt and road improvement works in La Verdellada, Las Gavias and Los Majuelos in the coming days as part of its municipal strategy for the repair and maintenance of the municipal road network.

The first of these works will commence on Monday, 25th August on Doctor Miguel Melo Benito Street in Las Gavias. This 635-metre road runs parallel to Camino Las Gavias and serves as one of the main access routes to the residences in this area of La Laguna.

The asphalt works will last for five days, covering an initial stretch between Atxona Street and Pedro González Street, followed by a second section between the latter and the intersection with Camino Tornero.

From Tuesday, 26th August, various works will take place on Avenida de La Libertad in the Los Majuelos industrial estate, necessitating the closure of traffic in the downhill direction.

In the first phase, the mixed company Teidagua will carry out improvements to the water drainage network. From 8th to 12th September, asphalt laying will be conducted on the road between Avenida El Paso and Aceviño Street, extending to the intersection with the TF-2.

Finally, from Monday, 1st September, the Department of Works and Infrastructures will commence the resurfacing of Francisco Afonso Carrillo Street, a key road in the La Verdellada neighbourhood, providing access to the main square and the Citizens’ Centre.

The works will be carried out over an approximate length of 290 metres from Avenida La Salle to Cruz de Marca Street. Previously, the City Council had executed pavement reforms and lowered kerbs on this road to enhance pedestrian safety.

La Laguna Requests Community Cooperation

The Councillor for Works and Infrastructures, Ángel Chinea, recalls that these initiatives “respond to technical criteria prioritising the streets in the worst condition in the various towns and neighbourhoods of the municipality and their traffic volume, to ensure road safety for both drivers and pedestrians.”

The Department of Works requests the utmost cooperation from residents to facilitate the normal progression of these works, paying special attention to vertical signage and instructions from operatives. Any potential alterations to access for garages in the area will be communicated by the contractor as the works proceed.
