Motorcyclist in Critical Condition Following Tenerife Accidents
A motorcyclist has been hospitalised in critical condition and three other individuals have sustained injuries in two accidents that occurred early on Saturday morning on the TF-5 motorway in northern Tenerife, as reported by the Emergency and Safety Coordination Centre 112.
Details of the First Incident
The first incident occurred on the TF-5 near San Benito in La Laguna, heading towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The 112 centre received an alert at 00:44 regarding a rear-end collision involving two motorcycles. Consequently, one of the riders was thrown into the opposite lanes heading north.
Subsequent Collisions
This accident triggered a further rear-end collision involving several vehicles at the same location, but on the northbound lanes of the TF-5.
Emergency Response
Personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) dispatched three ambulances to the scene, where they provided initial assistance to the injured parties.
Injuries Reported
In relation to the first incident, a 28-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious multiple injuries and was transported to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias, where he has been admitted in critical condition.
The second affected individual is a 27-year-old motorcyclist with minor injuries, who was taken to the San Juan de Dios Hospital.
Injuries to Car Occupants
In the other accident, two women were involved: one aged 23, who is pregnant and was a passenger in a car, initially presented with minor injuries and was taken to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias.
A 29-year-old woman, also a car passenger, sustained various moderate injuries and was evacuated in a private vehicle after declining ambulance transport.
Impact on Traffic
As a result of both incidents, the southbound lanes of the TF-5 were completely closed, while only the right lane remained open in the northbound direction. The Civil Guard requested the Road Maintenance Service to redirect traffic through adjacent streets in both directions.
Assistance from Emergency Services
Firefighters secured the intervention area and the vehicles involved in both accidents.
The Local Police of La Laguna assisted the Civil Guard, who managed traffic on the road and prepared the necessary reports.
The Road Maintenance Service was responsible for cleaning the road and providing temporary signage.
