Canary Islands Announce Local Public Holidays for 2026

The Ministry of Tourism and Employment has published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) the dates for the local public holidays in each municipality of the autonomous community for the year 2026.

In line with the established labour regulations, the calendar includes a maximum of fourteen paid, non-recoverable public holiday days, of which two are designated as local holidays specific to each municipality. These days have been approved in municipal plenary sessions and submitted to the Directorate General of Labour for publication in the BOC.

The procedure was managed by the Ministry of Tourism and Employment, under the direction of Jéssica de León, once the deadline for proposals from the 88 municipalities of the Canary Islands closed.

Local Holidays in Lanzarote

The approved local holidays in the island of Lanzarote include:

  • Arrecife (25 August, Festival of San Ginés)
  • Haría (24 June, Festival of San Juan)
  • San Bartolomé (24 August, Local Festival)
  • Teguise (16 July, Festival of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, and 5 August, Festival of Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves)
  • Tías (2 February, Festival of Nuestra Señora La Candelaria)
  • Tinajo (24 June, Festival of San Juan Bautista)
  • Yaiza (7 July, Festival of San Marcial del Rubicón, and 8 September, Festival of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios)

Carnival Celebrations

In addition, a total of 46 municipalities have chosen 17 February, Shrove Tuesday, as one of their local public holidays. These locations include:

For the island of Tenerife, the approved local holidays for 2026 are:

  • Arona (5 October, Festival of the Most Holy Christ of Health)
  • Buenavista del Norte (24 August, Festival of San Bartolomé, and 26 October, Festival of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios)
  • Candelaria (27 July, Festival of Santa Ana)
  • El Rosario (3 August, Festival of Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza)
