PSOE de Lanzarote Condemns €25,000 Salary Increase for Tourist Centre Director Amidst Ongoing Crisis

The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced that the Managing Director of the Tourist Centres, Ángel Vázquez, has raised his salary by €25,000 from one year to the next, increasing it from €69,785.37 in 2023 to €94,742.48 in 2024.

Controversial Salary Increase

The socialist councillor at the Cabildo, Benjamín Perdomo, described this increase as “scandalous and unjustifiable,” emphasising that “there is no reason to support this, especially in an island facing a crisis of water, housing, and basic services.”

Public Discontent

“In just one year, Vázquez, with the complicity of Oswaldo Betancort, decided to pocket nearly €25,000 more while families are still waiting for decent housing, while water cuts continue, and while public services are in disarray. This is an insult to the citizens of Lanzarote and a clear indication of the priorities of Coalición Canaria and the Popular Party: their salaries come first, and if there’s anything left over, then the island,” Perdomo asserted.

Broader Issues

The socialist councillor reminds us that this pay rise is not an isolated incident; rather, it is part of a management model characterised by excessive spending on trips, events, and institutional propaganda, which does not improve the lives of citizens.

“The Tourist Centres should be a driving force for employment, sustainability, and culture. What we are witnessing is the exact opposite: a fiefdom serving CC and PP, where salaries are increased, expenses are skyrocketing, and the public duty they should perform is being neglected,” Perdomo concluded.
