The Castilla-La Mancha midfielder Javi Pérez has reached an agreement with CD Tenerife for the 2025-2026 season, with an option for an additional year, as announced by the island club. This makes him the fifteenth signing for the blanquiazul team this campaign.

Javier Pérez Mateo, born on 14 August 1995 in Cabanillas del Campo (Guadalajara), began his football career at CD Guadalajara, the very team Tenerife will face this coming Sunday at the Pedro Escartín Stadium in the first match of Group 1 of the Primera Federación.

The new blanquiazul player is well-acquainted with the third tier of Spanish football, having played 178 matches in this division.

After two years with the first team at Guadalajara, he spent subsequent seasons in the youth teams of UD Almería and Real Valladolid.

His strong performance with the blanquivioleta side earned him a move to UD Ibiza, where he was part of the squad that achieved promotion to the Segunda División during the 2020-2021 season. Since then, he has completed 74 matches in the second tier with the Balearic team, AD Alcorcón, and SD Huesca, which was his last club before committing to his new side.

First Words as a Blanquiazul

Castilla-La Mancha player Javi Pérez, the latest signing for CD Tenerife for the 2025-2026 Primera Federación season, expressed to the club’s official media his excitement about joining “a very big club” to take on “a beautiful and thrilling challenge”. He conveyed that he is “excited” and “full of emotions” following the call from the blanquiazul team.

The Cabanillas del Campo midfielder stated he did not hesitate to accept the proposal for a year with an option for another, feeling almost compelled to do so as he believes CD Tenerife “should be in the Primera División”, despite currently being in a lower division after their relegation to the third tier of Spanish football.

Now 30 years old, having celebrated his birthday just last week, Javi Pérez insists he is in an “ideal” moment of his life to “perform at the highest level”, and he only needs to get “on the same physical level” as his teammates.

The player from Alcarria, the fifteenth addition to Tenerife’s new project, emphasised the importance of “approaching this challenging category with humility, knowing where we are and where we come from. But we are Tenerife, and we must aim to win every match.”

He also praised his new fan base, stating, “Even after a difficult last year, they are still here, supporting us, and they are getting back on board with the team in a lower division. This demonstrates the kind of fans we have and how loyal they are to Tenerife. I hope we can enjoy this year and achieve our goals together.”

Javi Pérez has already undergone a medical examination at the Hospitén Rambla medical centre and will today begin training under Álvaro Cervera.
