Tributes Paid to Former Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote President

Former president of Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote, Juan Ramón de León Tejera, who held the position from 1985 to 2002, passed away on Sunday night, as reported by the Lanzarote club on its social media channels this Monday.

Born in San Bartolomé, De León Tejera dedicated his life to handball. He began as a player in the club’s early days during the 1970s, later becoming a coach and youth programme developer, and eventually leading CB Zonzamas through “one of its most successful periods, during which it established itself as a leading force in both insular and national handball.”

Under his leadership, Zonzamas entered the national arena, securing three consecutive Spanish championships from 1997 to 1999 with a golden generation, winning titles in different categories (cadet female in 1997 and youth female in 1998 and 1999).

“We extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Juan Ramón’s legacy will forever remain in the history of our club and Lanzarote handball. Rest in peace,” the organisation stated.
