The bay of El Médano in Granadilla de Abona was the venue this weekend for a new edition of the Folklore Showcase of the Towns, which recorded a complete success in terms of attendance and participation, celebrating its 30th anniversary as a hallmark of the summer cultural programme of Sansofé.

The event, which took place from 18th to 24th August, was organised by the Department of Culture and Festivals, led by Carlos Abismael Díaz Barreto, and was concluded yesterday, Sunday, with a performance by Los Sabandeños.

International Participation

This special edition featured renowned international groups, including the Municipal Folkloric Ballet of Rancagua (Chile) and the Huayra Muyoj Ballet (Argentina), who shared the stage with local groups such as A.C. y Folclórica Verseadores de Acorán and A.F. y Cultural Guarache.

Folklore associations from the municipality were also involved, along with traditional dances from Las Vegas, Chimiche, and Charco del Pino, as well as guests from Guamasa and Tacoronte, who showcased their typical dances.

Honouring Tradition

The councillor for Culture, Carlos Abismael Díaz Barreto, emphasised that celebrating 30 years of the Folk Showcase of the Towns means commemorating our history, our roots, and the brotherhood with other communities through music and dance.

“This festival is a source of pride for the municipality; it is a space for coexistence and cultural exchange, and we have established it as one of the most cherished events of our summer,” stated the councillor. He also took the opportunity to once again thank the group Ben Guajara from Charco del Pino, founders of the showcase three decades ago.

Cultural Activities

The programme included not only folkloric performances but also parallel activities such as tango and chacarera classes, workshops on Canarian folk dance, a Craft Fair showcasing Argentina and Chile, and the celebration of the second traditional dance gathering.
