The Mayor demands a schedule for the execution of works and timely information for residents and restaurants, proposing a meeting on 9th September. The Town Council urges that the sanitation works be used to replace the inadequate supply network pipe. “Failing to inform the Town Council of the execution steps is not only an institutional betrayal but also disregards that the project was drafted by Yaiza,” he stated.

At the initiative of Yaiza’s Mayor, Óscar Noda, the President of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, and the Water Councillor, Domingo Cejas, attended a technical-political meeting in Yaiza on Tuesday. This followed the Mayor’s complaint regarding the lack of information about the planned start date of the works and the timeline requested by the community and local restaurant owners.

Urgent Actions Needed

As a preliminary conclusion, Óscar Noda reported that “the Cabildo is now acknowledging that time is pressing to justify the one million euros from the State obtained by the Town Council for the execution of the project before 14th December.” Last January, the Mayor had already warned that there was little time left to meet the deadline. In any case, Yaiza has collected all expenses related to project supervision and cost updates, in addition to processing the necessary sectoral permits.

Calls for Collaboration

Óscar Noda reiterated his demand for a detailed execution schedule and timely information for the community, suggesting a meeting on 9th September to chart a path that causes the least disruption possible. “We also propose carrying out the works required for homes to connect to the sewer system without having to dig again.” The Mayor also asked the Cabildo to take advantage of the sanitation works in El Golfo to replace the poorly maintained supply network pipe. Óscar Noda maintains that “not informing the Town Council of the execution steps is not only an institutional betrayal but also ignores that the project was drafted by Yaiza.”
