PSOE Calls for Immediate Creation of Public Nursery School in Tinajo
On Monday, the PSOE party in Tinajo demanded the immediate establishment of a Public Nursery School in the municipality, following the announcement of the closure of the only existing private early childhood education centre on 31 August.
The centre is closing “without the Town Hall offering any alternatives, leaving parents in a state of complete vulnerability and without resources to balance family and work life.”
Socialist spokesperson in the Tinajo Town Hall, Begoña Hernández, was adamant in her criticism of the mayor, stating: “We are talking about an essential resource that enables parents to balance their responsibilities and provides young children with access to quality early education. They have known about this for months and have done nothing.”
Hernández reminded that back in 2019, the PSOE in Tinajo requested the nationalist governing group to set up a public nursery school. “Five years later, not only have they made no progress, but we are now left with no options,” lamented Hernández.
“While all other municipalities in Lanzarote have invested in public early education resources, Tinajo remains the only one without this service. It is a disgrace and further evidence of this government’s neglect,” she added.
The socialists warn that starting in September, many families in Tinajo and surrounding areas will be forced to travel in order to reconcile family and work life “because the municipality of Tinajo does not provide this essential resource.”
For this reason, they are demanding that the mayor take immediate action and initiate the procedures for establishing a Public Nursery School in the municipality: “This is not just a matter of will; it is a matter of rights. Tinajo cannot remain at the bottom of essential public services. Machín must stop thinking about headlines and start governing for the people,” concluded Hernández.
Additionally, the PSOE in Tinajo announced that they will present a motion at the next ordinary plenary session to demand the creation of a Public Nursery School in the municipality.
