Yaiza Council Calls for Urgent Information on Project Timeline

Yaiza Mayor Calls for Urgent Information on €1 Million State-Funded Project Timeline

The Yaiza Council announced on Tuesday that, at the request of the municipality’s mayor, Óscar Noda, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the water councillor, Domingo Cejas, attended a technical-political meeting in Yaiza. This meeting was convened following the mayor’s complaints regarding the lack of information about the expected start date for works and the schedule for actions requested by residents and local restaurateurs.

Urgency Expressed Over Project Funding

As a preliminary conclusion, Óscar Noda stated that “the Cabildo now acknowledges that time is pressing to justify, before 14 December, the million euros obtained from the State for the project’s execution”. Earlier in January, the mayor warned that there was little time to meet the deadline. In any case, Yaiza has compiled all expenses related to the project’s supervision and cost updates while processing the necessary sectoral permits.

Request for Clear Communication

Óscar Noda reiterated his call for the Cabildo to provide a detailed schedule for the execution of works and timely information to the community. He proposed a meeting on 9 September to outline a path that would cause minimal disruption. “We also suggest executing the connection works so that homes can connect to the sewage system without the need for repeated disruptions.” The mayor also urged the Cabildo to take advantage of the sewage works in El Golfo to replace the poorly maintained supply network pipe. Óscar Noda emphasised that “failing to inform the Council of the execution steps not only reflects institutional disloyalty but also disregards that the project was drafted by Yaiza.”
