Programme for the Remedios Festivities in Yaiza
Festivities Begin in Yaiza
The southern town of Yaiza kicks off its festivities in honour of the Virgin of Los Remedios on Friday, 29th August. The event will commence at 20:00 at the Casa de la Cultura with the reading of the proclamation, delivered by siblings Juana and Enrique González Hernández. They are members of the family affectionately known in the community as ‘the postmen’, due to their historical ties to the local postal service. Additionally, at 21:00, the Agrupación Folklórica Rubicón will host its festival in the Plaza de Remedios, showcasing singing, dancing, tradition, and poetry, this year featuring the Agrupación Folklórica Los Dóniz from the Valley of Orotava, Tenerife. The council, led by Óscar Noda, encourages the residents of Lanzarote to participate by consulting the detailed programme available at www.yaiza.es.
“We have a very busy first weekend of festivities ahead, where camaraderie and joy will reign. Yaiza, as a welcoming community, invites residents and visitors of Lanzarote to engage in its Remedios celebrations. Alongside the Festival Committee, we have prepared a diverse line-up of activities, culminating on 8th September, the Grand Day of Yaiza, with international artist Coti and his band, who is on tour in Europe and will close the festivities in Yaiza,” stated the Councillor for Celebrations, Daniel Medina.
Traditional Romería on Saturday, 30th August
Saturday, 30th August, promises to be equally action-packed. In the morning, there will be a children’s integration activity featuring surprises and a foam party. Then, in the afternoon, at 18:00, the traditional romería and offering to the Patron will take place, involving groups of musicians and dancers, along with festively decorated animal-drawn carts. The meeting point is the car park at the Yaiza football field.
On Sunday, 31st August, another children’s event is scheduled at midday, followed by a couples’ gymkhana at 17:00 in the square. Later, sacred music will grace the church of Remedios with a recital featuring the Agrupación Vocal de Yaiza and the Sacred Music Trio. The evening will bring laughter, starting at 20:30, with performances by Carmen and Chano, promising a night of fun and amusement. From Monday onwards, Yaiza will continue to offer more tradition, culture, and festivities.
