Man Arrested for Violent Theft at Gran Canaria Supermarket
Incident Details
The events took place at the end of July, when a man attempted to steal several bottles of alcohol from a supermarket in Playa de Arinaga, Gran Canaria. According to witness accounts and security camera footage, when confronted by a staff member, he reacted with “excessive aggression.”
As a result of the confrontation, one of the cashiers was injured, leading to a heightened sense of insecurity among both employees and customers, according to a statement released by the Guardia Civil on Wednesday.
Victim’s Intervention
At the moment of the incident, a second employee intervened in an attempt to protect her colleague, subsequently becoming the target of the assailant’s violent response. She was subjected to punches and blows from the attacker.
The woman, who later reported the incident, suffered a severe blow that resulted in an injury to one of her left fingers, leaving her on medical leave.
Investigation Efforts
The Guardia Civil initially attempted to locate the suspect in Agüimes, but were unable to find him. This hampered the investigation, as it was later discovered that he had fled the municipality.
Ultimately, agents from the Investigation Area were able to locate him, resulting in his arrest on 14 August.
