36th Artisan Fair in Lanzarote to Showcase Over 120 Craftspeople from the Archipelago and Texas

The event, presented today at the Cabildo de Lanzarote, will take place from 10th to 15th September in Mancha Blanca, bringing together over 120 artisans from the Archipelago as well as international participants from San Antonio, Texas.

On Wednesday, the Cabildo de Lanzarote formally announced the 36th edition of the Craft Fair, set to be held in Mancha Blanca. More than 120 artisans from across the Archipelago will participate, alongside creators from San Antonio, Texas.

The presentation was led by Oswaldo Betancort, president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, along with Aroa Revelo, the councillor for Craftsmanship, Jesús Machín, the councillor for Culture, and Jesús Machín, the mayor of Tinajo. Notable artisans Félix Hernández Saavedra and Víctor Socas were also present.

Aroa Revelo and Jesús Machín concurred that “this fair, now firmly established in the island’s cultural calendar with over 70,000 visitors in the previous edition, keeps our traditions alive and encourages connection with new generations, reinforcing the bond between popular culture, innovation, and creativity.”

Revelo highlighted that “this year we wanted to focus on trades closely linked to the island’s history, such as soletas and rosetas, while also opening ourselves to the world through the exchange brought by Texan artisans.”

Oswaldo Betancort emphasised that “this 36th edition is a collective success from the entire multidisciplinary team at the insular institution,” adding that craftsmanship is not only about showcasing trades but also involves industry, economy, and culture, encompassing fashion, sustainability, and the recovery of Canary identity markers.”

Similarly, Mayor Jesús Machín expressed gratitude to the Cabildo de Lanzarote for their efforts and noted that the municipality has established itself as the venue for this fair. “Mancha Blanca becomes the epicentre of international craftsmanship each September, a space where locals and visitors can enjoy our traditions in a unique environment.”

Over 120 Exhibitors and 40 Trades

The programme for the 36th Craft Fair in Lanzarote offers something for everyone, merging tradition, innovation, and communal spaces. Family and adult workshops will highlight ancestral crafts such as pottery, palm weaving, and tanning, alongside live craft demonstrations by weavers, knife makers, and shoemakers. The fair will also include tastings of gofio, musical performances, folk groups, as well as discussions and meetings about tradition, and demonstrations of traditional Canarian games and sports such as Lucha Canaria, the can game, and plough lifting.

“This showcase highlights the resilience and creativity of a sector that has managed to adapt and reinvent itself, keeping the wisdom of our ancestors alive,” explained Aroa Revelo.

Among the most notable new features is the third edition of the Rosetas Meeting, which will bring together artisans and enthusiasts of this traditional craft. There will be a special focus on soletas, rustic footwear with traditional Lanzarote soles; guest artisans from Texas; and the announcement of the Lanzarote Craft Awards 2025, organised by the Cabildo and the Centres of Art, Culture, and Tourism (CACT), aimed at supporting the quality, profitability, and sustainability of traditional trades on the island.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy and purchase a wide variety of handcrafted items on display and for sale, ranging from traditional goods like campesino hats, clothing, Canarian knives, weaving, and pottery, to contemporary pieces, including lamps, designer textiles, innovative jewellery, and decorative items that blend traditional techniques with modern designs. The fair will open its doors on Wednesday, 10th September at 17:30, and from 11th September will be open from 10:30 to 21:30 until Monday, 15th. Workshops that require registration can be booked from 5th September at 08:00, with all information and programming available on the official website artesaniadelanzarote.com.
