Event Details
According to a press release, the presentation was led by Oswaldo Betancort, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, accompanied by Aroa Revelo, the councillor for Craftsmanship, Jesús Machín, the councillor for Culture, and Tinajo’s mayor, Jesús Machín. Also present were artisans Félix Hernández Saavedra and Víctor Socas.
Promoting Traditions and Innovation
Councillors Aroa Revelo and Jesús Machín emphasised that “this fair, which has become a staple in the island’s cultural calendar with over 70,000 visitors last year, keeps our traditions alive and promotes engagement from younger generations, strengthening the connection between popular culture, innovation, and creativity.”
Revelo highlighted that “this edition aims to spotlight trades deeply intertwined with the island’s history, such as soletas and rosetas, while simultaneously welcoming the world with the exchanges brought by artisans from Texas.”
Oswaldo Betancort further noted during the event that “this 36th edition is a collective success of the multidisciplinary team at the insular institution, reiterating that craftsmanship encompasses not just the visibility of trades but also industry, economy, and culture. We are discussing fashion, sustainability, and the recovery of unique Canarian identity markers.”
Likewise, Tinajo’s mayor, Jesús Machín, expressed gratitude to the Cabildo of Lanzarote for their efforts and remarked that the municipality has now solidified its position as the host of this fair. “Mancha Blanca becomes the epicentre of international craftsmanship every September, a place where locals and visitors alike can enjoy our traditions in a unique environment.”
More than 120 Exhibitors and 40 Crafts
The programme for the 36th Lanzarote Craft Fair offers something for everyone, combining tradition, innovation, and social spaces. The fair will also include tastings of gofio, musical performances, and traditional gatherings, as well as talks and discussions on traditions, plus exhibitions of Canarian games and sports, including Lucha Canaria, the can game, and plough lifting.
“This exhibition showcases the resilience and creativity of a sector that has adapted and reinvented itself, keeping alive the wisdom of our ancestors,” explained Aroa Revelo.
