First Edition of Agrofuer Launched by Fuerteventura Cabildo

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has unveiled the inaugural edition of Agrofuer, an initiative within the ‘Fuerte por Naturaleza’ programme, driven by the Department of Tourism and funded by the European Next Generation EU funds. The aim is to promote the economy of rural areas and encourage the consumption of locally sourced products.

Taking place over two days, on 5 and 6 September, Agrofuer will be filled with gastronomy, music, and a rich cultural offering for both locals and tourists to enjoy the unique aspects of Fuerteventura, guided by top industry experts. Additionally, the event will feature two workshops on traditional craftsmanship, led by local artisans.

Quotes from Officials

Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, emphasised that “Agrofuer represents much more than a fair—it is, above all, a space where local products, craftsmanship, and Majorcan culture come together.” She added, “During these days, Tuineje will be a meeting point to demonstrate that Fuerteventura is much more than sun and beach. It encompasses fields, history, and living culture.”

Marlene Figueroa, the Tourism Councillor, noted that “tourism increasingly seeks quality destinations. This quality must be conveyed through local products, cuisine, and our culture.”

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Tuineje, Candelaria Umpiérrez, expressed gratitude for selecting Tuineje as the location for the first edition of Agrofuer and invited everyone to participate.

Juan Jesús Rodríguez, President of the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce, highlighted that “this fair is significant for the Chamber of Commerce because the tourism sector is the engine of the island’s economy, and it must also drive other sectors to stimulate them.”

This revitalising project is a collaboration between the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the island’s Chamber of Commerce, which signed an agreement on 6 August, aiming to link the growth of the tourism sector with the development of rural communities.
