La Laguna unveiled the official programme and poster for the Santísimo Cristo 2025 festivities on Wednesday, 27 August. The celebrations will take place from 4 to 21 September and feature over fifty cultural, religious, sporting, and popular events. The announcement was made at the main façade of the Town Hall.
During the presentation, the mayor emphasised “the grandeur of this celebration, which is part of our city’s intangible heritage and has provided unforgettable memories for countless generations of Laguneros who have participated in these events since our childhoods.”
Gutiérrez also highlighted, “This spirit has led us to strengthen the most representative events of the Cristo and to recover actions from the past that remain in our collective memory, which we do not wish to fade over time. A clear example is the announcing parade, which will honour the former Battle of Flowers that once paraded through the historic centre, returning this year with the participation of local groups.”
Finally, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez explained that a programme has been designed with all ages in mind, focusing on events such as the Senior Festival (8 September) and the three Saturdays of Children’s Fair (6, 13, and 20 September), ensuring fun and plenty of surprises for the little ones.
Dailos González began his remarks by recognising “the involvement of collectives, entities, associations, and individuals who contribute each year to the enhancement of the most important festivities in our city, which are a true reflection of our history and tradition.”
The municipal official then announced that the official agenda will commence on Thursday, 4 September, with the proclamation reading, which this year will be entrusted to the emblematic Club Baloncesto Canarias.
“From that moment, an extensive programme will follow, featuring national and international artists and groups of great renown, such as José Vélez, Estrellas de Buenavista Social Club, Love of Lesbian, Edwin Rivera, Marilia Monzón, and Locoplaya, among other notable names,” commented the municipal representative.
This edition will also include cherished events such as the XLVII Sabandeño Festival (6 September), the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra concert (7 September), the IV Inclusive Fair (10 September), the performance by Los Cantadores (12 September), the parade of the Pandorga and the Little Firehorses, and the Night of Traditions (13 September) as well as the Night of Comedy (17 September), featuring Abubukaka and Antonia San Juan.
Religious and Worship Activities
The chief servant of the Cristo, Eladio Alexis Díaz, outlined the religious events that mark the celebration, including the ceremony of the descent and the procession of the Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna to the Cathedral (9 September) and the celebration of the Eucharist and return procession, scheduled for Saturday, 14 September.
Composition of the Official Poster
Local artist Nareme Melián explained the creation process of this year’s official poster, “in which I wanted to revisit the aesthetics and origins of this image, with absolute prominence given to the sculpture, particularly focusing on its left profile, which is not commonly depicted in portraits and photographs.”
“Over the past months, I have closely observed the sculpture, and it has conveyed great beauty to me, stemming from its simplicity in technique and process. This working methodology inspired me to use everyday elements such as the iconic BIC pens, combined with watercolour, to sketch this poster,” the artist stated.
“As a native of Punta del Hidalgo, it is an honour for me to take on this responsibility, and that is why I have aimed to reflect what these festivities mean for the entire municipality, using the green symbolising Anaga, the blue representing our coastline, and the red associated with the passion of Christ,” he concluded.
Commitment to Sport
The Fiestas del Cristo 2025 will have a prominent sporting component, featuring events such as the XLIV Cristo Popular Race (6 September), various stages of the LXV Vuelta Ciclista a Tenerife that will pass through the city, the Echo Hy-Race 2k25, and the mixed Basketball Tournament during the festivities (both on 13 September).
The day of 20 September will see the 25th BMX Trophy, the XXXIV City of La Laguna Table Tennis Tournament, and the Fiestas del Cristo Boxing Gala. The next day, it will be the turn of the Institutional Wrestling Fiestas del Cristo 2025.
The presentation concluded with a musical performance by the Agrupación Folclórica Hermanos Rodríguez de Milán, which will be honoured this year at the Night of Traditions.
Throughout this week, the complete programme for the Fiestas del Cristo 2025 will be made available on the website of the Town Hall of La Laguna and on the municipality’s social media profiles, detailing dates, locations, and information about each event.
