Lanzarote Introduces €500,000 Initiative to Boost Local Commerce with New “Bonos Consume” Campaign

An increased investment in Consume Lanzarote vouchers alongside Felapyme aims to support local commerce and families amid inflation.

Launch of the Fourth Edition of “Consume Lanzarote”

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its Commerce Department, presented the fourth edition of the “Consume Lanzarote” campaign this Friday. This well-established initiative is developed in collaboration with Felapyme (Federation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises of Lanzarote) and aims to stimulate the economy by encouraging spending in local establishments.

Government Commitment to Local Businesses

During the presentation, island president Oswaldo Betancort stated that Consume Lanzarote is “a key commitment of the current government group at the Cabildo, which increases its investment year after year to enhance the campaign’s impact. This also helps families combat inflation.” He added that it is “not just an economic support campaign, but a genuine commitment to our people and our merchants.” Betancort highlighted that the timing coincides perfectly with the start of the school year and the approaching holiday shopping season.

Significant Increase in Investment

The Councillor for Commerce, Armando Santana, emphasised how this campaign channels public resources directly to local commerce, creating a positive impact on employment and the local economy. “We have increased the Cabildo’s contribution by over 100,000 euros, reaching half a million euros, of which 387,000 euros will go directly to subsidising the vouchers (compared to 285,000 euros last year). With this institutional support, citizens can acquire vouchers worth 60 euros for just 30 euros, redeemable at a wide network of participating stores across all municipalities on the island,” he explained.

Total of 3,400 Additional Vouchers

The Consume Lanzarote campaign continues to exceed expectations, solidifying its role as a driving force for local economic activity. This year, the Cabildo’s effective investment will reach half a million euros, with most of the funds allocated to sales campaigns while part will cover promotional activities and personnel costs. This is expected to generate a total economic impact, including buyer contributions, of 774,000 euros, which is over 200,000 euros more than last year.

The 2024 campaign resulted in 9,500 vouchers issued, and the forecast for 2025 is to make 12,900 vouchers available to the public, an increase of 3,400. Additionally, the number of participating merchants is expected to exceed 300, as the Cabildo and Felapyme anticipate.

Each user can purchase a maximum of 6 vouchers, each valued at 60 euros, with the customer contributing 30 euros and the Cabildo subsidising the remaining 30 euros. Thus, with a personal contribution of 180 euros, each consumer will have 360 euros to spend in participating shops.

To ensure fair distribution, each participating store can receive a maximum of 6,000 euros in redeemed vouchers.

Key Dates for the Campaign

Merchant registrations for the Consume Lanzarote campaign will open from 1st September to 31st October. Meanwhile, the sale and redemption of vouchers will take place from 19th September (exact time to be announced) until 15th November 2025.

The procedures must be carried out through the platform www.consumelanzarote.org.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has reiterated its gratitude to Felapyme, whose involvement is crucial for the management, coordination, and development of the campaign.
