Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Issues Over 126 Sanctions for Urban Cleaning Violations in 2025
Rise in Sanctions
The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has processed 126 complaints related to urban cleaning violations during the first half of 2025, amounting to a total of €43,560 in fines, as reported by the local authority this Friday.
Breakdown of Violations
Ninety-three per cent of the sanctions are linked to breaches of the Municipal Cleaning Ordinance (OMLP), with 117 cases recorded. The remaining 7% relates to infractions under the Waste Law, totalling nine sanctions.
The most frequent violations noted in the report include littering in public areas, causing unsightly conditions, feeding pigeons, abandoning debris or junk, encroaching on designated container zones, and disposing of waste outside authorised times or locations.
District Analysis
By district, the Centro area recorded the highest number of complaints, with 49 sanctions issued, followed by Puerto-Isleta-Guanarteme (33), Vegueta-Cono Sur-Tafira (20), El Extrarradio (13), and Ciudad Alta (11).
Financial Implications
Of the €43,560 in fines, €17,760 stem from complaints made by cleaning inspectors, €7,800 from Local Police sanctions, and €18,000 relate to breaches of the Waste Law.
Commitment to Cleanliness
Councilman for Cleaning, Héctor Alemán, emphasised that they are continuing to “strengthen control and inspection mechanisms to ensure compliance with the Municipal Cleaning Ordinance and to keep public spaces clean and well-maintained for everyone.”
He also reminded citizens that the City Council offers free services to facilitate responsible waste disposal, including a home collection service for bulky items and a temporary collection point that visits different neighbourhoods of the city each month.
