Increased Sanctions for Urban Cleaning Violations in Las Palmas

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, through the Management, Control and Inspection Department of the Municipal Cleaning Service, has processed a total of 126 reports for infractions related to urban cleaning between January and June 2025.

Ongoing Efforts for Cleanliness

The Councillor for Cleaning, Héctor Alemán, stated, “We are continuing to strengthen the mechanisms of control and inspection to ensure compliance with the Municipal Cleaning Ordinance and to keep public spaces clean and well-maintained for everyone.”

Alemán also noted that “the City Council provides free services for citizens, such as home collection of bulky waste and a temporary collection point, which circulates through different neighbourhoods each month to facilitate the proper disposal of large waste items.”

Details of Sanctions Issued

Out of the total sanction files, 117 relate to breaches of the Municipal Cleaning Ordinance (OMLP) and 9 are linked to the Waste Law. The actions were divided among 79 reports made by municipal inspection staff and 47 by local police officers.

By districts, the majority of infractions were concentrated in the Central District, with 49 sanctions, followed by Puerto-Isleta-Guanarteme (33), Vegueta-Cono Sur-Tafira (20), the Outskirts (13), and Ciudad Alta (11).

The total amount of sanctions processed in the semester amounts to €43,560, of which €17,760 arises from reports by inspection staff, €7,800 from actions taken by local police, and €18,000 for violations specified in the Waste Law.

Waste Collection Services Available

To facilitate waste removal, the City Council offers a free home collection service for bulky items, which can be requested via the website here or by calling the freephone number 010 / 928 446 000, operating from 08:00 to 20:00, Monday to Friday.

Furthermore, the Municipal Cleaning Service has a temporary collection point that visits over twenty locations in the city each month to help with the removal of bulky items and small construction debris.

Community Engagement Initiative

This initiative, part of the ‘Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Más Próxima’ strategy, provides residents with a place to dispose of larger items. The container will be installed next Monday in the Las Mesas neighbourhood, continuing to Lomo Blanco (15 July), San Francisco (16 July), Nueva Isleta (17 July), Las Torres (18 July), Piletas (21 July), Salto del Negro (22 July), Triana (23 July), Las Coloradas (24 July), Escaleritas (25 July), Tenoya (28 July), San José (29 July), Lomo Apolinario (30 July), and Guanarteme (31 July).

The schedule, detailing the exact location of the container, can be checked on the website here or via a QR code placed at the deposit site. Since its implementation in December 2023, this service has enabled residents to dispose of over 55,000 kilos of waste.
