Yaiza Advances in Energy Efficiency with Solar-Powered LED Streetlight Project

On Friday, the Yaiza Council announced a significant step towards energy efficiency by initiating a project to replace outdated street lamps in the Cortijo Viejo area of Puerto Calero. The new lighting will utilise solar-powered LED technology. This initiative was confirmed by the Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, who signed an inter-administrative cooperation agreement for the Cabildo of Lanzarote to implement the project using Next Generation European funds.

Enhanced Features and Environmental Benefits

The mayor emphasised that the upgrade will enhance performance, reduce environmental impact, and lower both electricity bills and maintenance costs for public lighting. The work will be carried out on the streets of Barranco del Agua, El Gancho, Barranco Los Dises, El Molino, and Gramillo, all situated in Cortijo Viejo. A similar initiative is also planned for CEIP Playa Blanca.

Renewal of Existing Infrastructure

The administration clarified that this initiative does not involve new lighting infrastructure but instead focuses on renewing and modernising existing setups. This ensures the continuity of public service with improved efficiency and sustainability. The project includes the installation of 121 autonomous photovoltaic fixtures equipped with LED lights, tailored to the street type and illumination requirements. These will be mounted on new five-metre-high poles with specific foundations. Each lighting point will have its own photovoltaic module, lithium battery, and electronic control system with sensors and regulators to optimise energy use.
