The Lanzarote Cabildo, through the Trade Department, has unveiled the fourth edition of the “Consume Lanzarote” campaign this Friday. This well-established initiative is carried out in collaboration with Felapyme (Inter-Island Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises of Lanzarote) and aims to stimulate the economy by encouraging consumption at local establishments.
Commitment to Local Economy
During the presentation, the island president, Oswaldo Betancort, stated that Consume Lanzarote “is a key initiative of the current Cabildo government, which has increased its investment year after year to enhance the campaign’s impact, helping families combat inflation.” Betancort also emphasised that “this is not just an economic support campaign; it’s a genuine commitment to our people and our merchants.” He pointed out that the timing is ideal for shopping as the start of the school term and the Christmas season approach.
Increased Funding and Impact
Armando Santana, the Trade Councillor, highlighted that this campaign effectively channels public resources directly to local commerce, creating a positive impact on employment and the local economy: “We have increased the island contribution by over €100,000, reaching half a million euros, of which €387,000 goes directly to subsidising the vouchers (compared to €285,000 last year). With this institutional support, we enable citizens to purchase vouchers worth €60 for only €30, which can be used at a wide network of participating businesses across all municipalities on the island,” he explained.
Growing Success
The Consume Lanzarote campaign continues to surpass expectations and solidify its role as a catalyst for economic revitalisation. The effective investment from the Cabildo will reach half a million euros this fiscal year, with the majority allocated to the sales campaign and a portion dedicated to its execution (promotion, management, staff hiring). This will facilitate a total economic impact—including contributions from consumers—of €774,000, which is over €200,000 more than last year.
The 2024 campaign resulted in 9,500 vouchers issued, while projections for 2025 indicate that a total of 12,900 vouchers will be made available, representing an increase of 3,400 vouchers. Expectations for merchant registration are also on the rise, as the Cabildo and Felapyme anticipate surpassing 300 participating establishments.
Voucher Details
Each user can purchase a maximum of six vouchers, each valued at €60, of which the customer pays €30 and the Cabildo subsidises the remaining €30. Thus, with a personal contribution of €180, each consumer will have €360 to spend at the participating businesses.
To ensure equitable distribution, each participating merchant can receive a maximum of €6,000 in redeemed vouchers.
Registration and Sales Period
Merchant registrations from Lanzarote and La Graciosa for the Consume Lanzarote campaign will open from 1st September to 31st October, while voucher sales and redemption will occur from 19th September (exact time to be announced) to 15th November 2025.
Procedures must be carried out through the platform www.consumelanzarote.org.
The Lanzarote Cabildo has reiterated its gratitude to Felapyme, whose involvement is essential for the management, coordination, and development of the campaign.
