Lanzarote Launches Fourth Edition of “Consume Lanzarote” Campaign to Boost Local Economy

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Commerce Department, has unveiled the fourth edition of the “Consume Lanzarote” campaign this Friday. This well-established initiative is developed in collaboration with Felapyme (Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises of Lanzarote) and aims to stimulate the local economy by encouraging consumers to shop at local establishments.

Government Commitment to Local Economy

During the launch, the island’s president, Oswaldo Betancort, stated that Consume Lanzarote “is a key commitment from the current government, which increases its investment year after year to enhance the campaign’s impact; aiding families in combating inflation.” Betancort emphasised that “this is not merely an economic support campaign; it is a genuine investment in our people and our traders.” He noted that the timing is ideal for purchases, coinciding with the start of the school year and the upcoming festive shopping season.

Direct Support for Local Commerce

Armando Santana, the Councillor for Commerce, highlighted how this campaign channels public funds directly into local businesses, creating a positive impact on employment and local economy. “We have increased the island contribution by more than €100,000, reaching a total of €500,000, of which €387,000 is allocated specifically for the voucher subsidy (up from €285,000 last year). With this institutional backing, during this new phase, citizens can purchase €60 vouchers for just €30, usable at a wide network of participating shops across the island’s municipalities,” he detailed.

Increase in Vouchers Issued This Year

According to the press release, the Consume Lanzarote campaign continues to exceed expectations, solidifying its role as a catalyst for economic activity. The effective investment by the Cabildo this fiscal year will reach €500,000, primarily directed towards the sales campaign, while part will also fund promotion, management, and staffing. This will generate a total economic impact—considering buyer contributions—of €774,000, which is over €200,000 more than the previous year.

The 2024 campaign resulted in the issuance of 9,500 vouchers, and projections indicate that in 2025, a total of 12,900 vouchers will be available to the public, representing an increase of 3,400 vouchers. There is also an upward trend in the anticipated number of registered businesses, with the Cabildo and Felapyme expecting to surpass 300 participating establishments.

Each user can purchase a maximum of 6 vouchers, valued at €60 each, with the customer contributing €30 and the Cabildo covering the remaining €30. Thus, with a personal investment of €180, each consumer will have €360 to spend at participating stores.

To ensure an equitable distribution, each participating shop can receive a maximum of €6,000 in redeemed vouchers.

Key Dates for the Campaign

The registration period for businesses in Lanzarote and La Graciosa to participate in the Consume Lanzarote campaign will run from 1 September to 31 October. Vouchers will be available for purchase and redemption from 19 September (exact time will be announced) to 15 November 2025.

All processes should be carried out through the platform www.consumelanzarote.org.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has expressed its gratitude to Felapyme, whose involvement is crucial for the management, coordination, and development of the campaign.
