August closed with 5,358 vehicle registrations across the market (+14.12% compared to August 2024). Despite improvements compared to last year, the figures are significantly lower than those in June and July, confirming a stabilisation in sales following the summer. “The growth recorded in August demonstrates the confidence of Canary Island families and their interest in renewing their vehicle fleet. Now we must ensure that the assistance and plans announced reach the citizens quickly,” said Manuel Sánchez, president of Aconauto Canarias.

In the segment of cars and SUVs, the Rent-a-Car channel’s performance contrasted with the general trend, recording 794 registrations. This figure represents an increase of 125% compared to August 2024, but a decrease of 64% compared to July 2025, indicating the end of the summer season.

The business channel reached 616 units (+19.61%), while the private channel —still the most important with 1,889 units and a 57.26% share— saw a modest growth of 8.63% compared to last year.

By Islands: Gran Canaria Leads, but without Rent-a-Car, It Ties with Tenerife

In the overall category of cars and SUVs, Gran Canaria accounted for 46.83% of the market with 2,509 registrations (+24%). Tenerife ranked second with 2,020 units (+0.95%).
However, when excluding the Rent-a-Car effect, both islands are nearly tied: 1,902 in Gran Canaria and 1,869 in Tenerife.

Motorcycles: Strong Annual Performance but Decline Compared to 2024

A total of 1,188 motorcycles were registered in August, bringing the annual total to 9,092 units. Tenerife led with 576 registrations for the month and a market share of 48.48%, followed by Gran Canaria with 477 units.
Despite these solid figures, the month shows a decline of 4.50% compared to August 2024, returning to pre-summer levels and confirming a degree of slowdown in this segment.

Industrial Vehicles: The Most Affected Sector

Industrial vehicles continue to trend negatively. Only 56 units were registered in August, confirming the declines this segment has faced since April.
Gran Canaria accounted for more than half of the market with 29 units and a 51.79% share, although the overall figures remain concerning.
