Tinajo’s Mayor Clarifies Misunderstanding Over Domestic Violence Comments

The Mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, has expressed regret that his remarks during the recent council meeting may have led to unintended interpretations. He firmly states that he never intended to diminish the seriousness of gender-based violence.

He further acknowledges that his message was not conveyed clearly and apologises for this, emphasising that the interpretation of his statements does not reflect the reality of the situation or what he intended to express.

Clarification on Housing of Offenders

Machín wishes to clarify that it is “completely false that any aggressors have been accommodated,” inviting anyone with doubts to verify this with the police, who have always prioritised the protection of victims.

“On the contrary, the measures implemented by both the institution and the Tinajo Local Police have consistently aimed at ensuring the safety of victims, who have been provided accommodation in situations of particular vulnerability,” the Mayor highlights.

Municipal Priorities

In all cases, including the one referred to in the council meeting, the municipal priority is to offer shelter and preventive protection to the victim, particularly when they refuse to file a complaint, while the Local Police or other security forces may pursue an official complaint.

These alternative solutions are adopted in the absence of supervised accommodation available for victims, unlike what other administrations can offer.

Commitment to Victim Protection

Jesús Machín emphasises that the Tinajo City Council always applies the established protocol for dealing with gender-based violence with the utmost rigor, reaffirming that the protection of victims remains their absolute priority.

The Mayor invites the public to view the complete council session to fully understand the context of his statements and reiterates his strong commitment to eradicating all forms of violence against women.
