The XL Fair of Craftsmanship in Pinolere opens on Thursday, 4th September, a key showcase in the Canary Islands, which will be open to the public until Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 hours.
Celebrating Generational Change
This year, coinciding with its anniversary, the fair will commence on a Thursday to dedicate the day to tourists. The event celebrates generational change and will feature around 180 craftsmen and craftswomen from all across the Archipelago.
Opening Ceremony Highlights
On Thursday at 11:30 hours, a mural will be unveiled in honour of the craftsmen, craftswomen, and crafts of the Canary Islands, represented by master craftsman Juan Ramírez Pérez, who works with reeds and bulrushes from Santa Lucía de Tirajana (Gran Canaria), created by @airjecor. This will be followed by the official opening ceremony, attended by regional, island, and local authorities.
Additionally, the awards for Cho Feriantes 2025 will be presented to Genoveva González, the Cabildo of Tenerife, and Gráficas Echeyde. The Villa de La Orotava Heritage Award will specifically honour the adorned church torches in La Orotava, awarded posthumously to Pedro Villar Morales for his role in their creation.
There will also be recognition and tribute to the pioneers of the Pinolere Craft Fair, including a homage to José Luis de León Torres, the creator of the first official fair poster.
Afternoon Events
In the afternoon, the launch of issue 39 of the magazine El Pajar-Cuaderno de Etnografía Canaria Oralidad y Tradición will be presented by Chano Díaz Afonso, a member of the itinerant socio-educational project La furgoneta fantástica.
Friday’s Tribute to Young Artisans
On Friday at 12:30 hours, another recognition event will take place, honouring young artisans from the Canary Islands, who embody “the generational change,” the main theme of this edition.
Weekend Activities for All
Over the weekend, there will be a programme of activities for all ages, including exhibitions, book presentations, a national stick game conference, children’s workshops, tributes, folkloric twinning, tastings, educational concerts, and gastronomic activities, among others.
