The Cabildo of Lanzarote presents live craftsmanship, oral literature, and cinema for reflection this September

The cultural agenda features the 36th Craft Fair of Lanzarote and the Palabras al Vuelo Festival, alongside music, theatre, cinema, and conferences

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its Culture Department, is offering a cultural programme for September that integrates craftsmanship, oral literature, music, cinema, theatre, talks, and exhibitions. The month is packed with proposals for all audiences, featuring activities that highlight local and international cultural heritage and talent.

The Councillor for Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío, states that “September reinforces the Cabildo’s commitment to an accessible and contemporary culture: from the Palabras al Vuelo Festival to live craftsmanship, alongside music, thought-provoking cinema, and cultural talks.”

Craft Fair of Lanzarote

From 10th to 15th September, Mancha Blanca will host the 36th Craft Fair of Lanzarote, featuring over 120 artisans, live workshops, musical performances, and the 2025 Craft Awards. The fair has established itself as a key event in the revival of traditional crafts while promoting contemporary artistry.

Palabras al Vuelo Festival

The International Storytelling Festival returns from 27th September to 12th October featuring storytellers from Canary Islands, Europe, and America, who will present their shows in educational centres, theatres, and natural spaces, offering a journey from traditional legends to contemporary narrative experiences.

Music

  • 5th September: The Tensamba Festival will feature the Pedro Rosa Quintet at El Almacén, presenting their new work Midnight Alvorada.
  • 9th September: A lecture-concert titled Weaving Emotions through Music, led by Laura Vega, exploring the musical creative process.

Cinema

The Buñuel Cinema at El Almacén will screen the following films this month:

  • On the Go, the debut by María Gisèle Royo and Julia de Castro.
  • September Says, the debut of Ariane Labed, based on the novel Sisters by Daisy Johnson.
  • The Sleeper, a documentary by Álvaro Longoria about the search for a lost Caravaggio.

Theatre

The theatre programme pays tribute to the Lanzarote filmmaker Roberto Pérez Toledo with Basic Sign Language Manual to Break Hearts, his only theatrical work, which will be performed at the Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero”.

Conferences and Critical Thinking

  • Collages and Women, a dialogue with artists and art historian Estefanía Camejo.
  • Presentation of the catalogue raya by Ángel Padrón, featuring texts by Dalia de la Rosa and Melchor López.
  • Conference titled The Periphery is the Centre, by photographer Teresa Correa.
  • A survival workshop for musicians and bands.
  • Talk by Tina Suárez on the poetic creative process.

Exhibitions

  • 5th September: JUIN. You Have also Rained. How to Transit Pain (Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz).
  • Macaronesia 1975-2025 (Casa Amarilla).
  • Art, Word, and Thought and the installation Atlas of Latent Gesture (El Almacén).
  • At the end of the month, Darío Machín will present Cristalización de un charco at the MIAC.

The featured image of the September cultural agenda features singer Almudena Hernández Toledo, adorned in a dress from the Chorus and Dances of Lanzarote, inspired by the traditional island attire of the 18th and 19th centuries.
