Crystallisation of a Puddle: New Exhibition by Darío Machín at MIAC Lanzarote
The International Museum of Contemporary Art (MIAC) will inaugurate the exhibition “Crystallisation of a Puddle” by the Lanzarote artist Darío Machín González on 27 September at 12:00 in the Espacio La Cabina. The exhibition will be open to the public until 19 December 2025.
An Installation on Salt and Landscape
This project focuses on salt as a symbolic and transformative material, closely linked to the history and landscapes of Lanzarote.
Machín invites artistic reflection on how this natural resource has influenced the traditional architecture and salinas landscapes of the island.
Sculptures Inspired by the Salinas
The exhibition features pieces crafted from wood and fabrics treated with sea salt, evoking the architectural forms of the salinas.
A notable element is the scale model of the stone walls of the Naos Salinas, placed on an artificial salina with water from the Janubio Salinas, which will crystallise over the course of the exhibition.
A Dialogue Between Memory and Contemporary Art
With this proposal, Darío Machín bridges the museum space with the saline history of Arrecife, creating a dialogue between the past and present.
The artist, known for his ceramic, textile and graphic installations, has exhibited in cities such as València, Madrid, and the Canary Islands, at institutions including the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània, Hybrid Art Fair, and the MIAC Lanzarote.
Organisation and Collaborators
The project is organised by the Centres for Art, Culture, and Tourism of Lanzarote (CACT), in collaboration with Las Salinas de Janubio.
Through this exhibition, MIAC reaffirms its commitment to contemporary art linked to the territory and cultural memory of Lanzarote.
