The Cabildo of Lanzarote is celebrating the remarkable public response to the workshops organised as part of the 36th Lanzarote Craft Fair, which will take place in Mancha Blanca, Tinajo, from 10 to 15 September. Within just thirty minutes of the online registrations opening this Friday at 08:00, spaces for four of the nine scheduled workshops were fully booked, including the waiting lists.

The response exceeded all expectations, with over 200 applications received in just 30 minutes. The most sought-after activities included Soletas: Tradition and Craft Technique, Botanical Printing on Fabric, Introduction to Pírgano Basketry, and Introduction to Traditional Thread Button Making.

The Councillor for Crafts, Aroa Revelo (image above), emphasised that this success confirms that “craftsmanship remains a vibrant heritage that sparks enthusiasm among our citizens. The workshops not only transmit techniques but also allow us to connect with our history and the generations that have preserved these trades.”

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Culture, Jesús Machín, highlighted that “every full workshop is another step towards ensuring the conservation and transmission of the intangible heritage of the Canary Islands.”

Spaces are still available in five other workshops that can be accessed via registration on the official website artesaniadelanzarote.com. Notable offerings include The History of the Tree of Life (12 September), led by Mexican artisan Verónica Castillo Salas; Dyeing with Cochineal, conducted by the Milana Association; Hand-Moulded Papier Maché, by Elizabeth Balderas; Traditional Pottery, with Aquilino Antonio Rodríguez Santana and Hirahi Rodríguez; and Cheese-Making Techniques, guided by Ángeles Arrocha Martín.
