Hotels and other tourist establishments affiliated with the Hotel Association of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro (Ashotel) closed August with occupancy rates virtually identical to those recorded a year earlier. According to a survey carried out by the association between 1 and 4 September, the average occupancy in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife stood at 86.37%. The study was conducted through Ashotel’s Observatory of Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainable Development.

Occupancy by Island

  • Tenerife once again led the way, with an average occupancy of 87.45%.
  • La Palma followed with 76.89%.
  • La Gomera registered 65.34%.
  • For El Hierro, insufficient data was available on this occasion.

Breakdown by Area of Tenerife

Tourist accommodation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife ends August with 86.3% occupancy

Within Tenerife, the southern tourist resorts maintained their traditional dominance, achieving an impressive 89.72% average occupancy. The north of the island followed with 82.73%, also close to last year’s figures. Meanwhile, the metropolitan area—which includes the capital Santa Cruz and surrounding municipalities—closed August at 62.68%, two points higher than the same month in 2024.

Forecasts for September and October

The Ashotel survey also included bookings already made at its member establishments for the coming months:

  • September: Average occupancy expected at 79.93% across the province.
    • Tenerife: 81.64%
    • La Palma: 62.78%
    • La Gomera: 54.91%
  • October: Average occupancy forecast at 71.44%.
    • Tenerife: 73.3%
    • La Palma: 52.1%
    • La Gomera: 45%

Expectations from Hoteliers

When asked about their expectations, hoteliers expressed a divided outlook:

  • 34% expect September and October occupancy to remain at the same level as last year.
  • 33.3% predict an improvement.
  • 32.6% anticipate a decline.

According to Ashotel, these figures confirm the stability of the sector, with occupancy rates holding steady despite challenges such as seasonal fluctuations and growing competition in Mediterranean and Atlantic tourism markets.
