The Mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez Martín, has sent a letter to the officials of the General State Administration and Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) on the Island, formally offering the Town Council’s collaboration to temporarily assist in the cleaning, maintenance, and preservation of the green and landscaped areas of César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, which is currently in a deplorable state.

According to a press release issued this Friday, the Council has expressed its readiness to activate a municipal team while the new service contract tendered by AENA is being resolved. The aim is to prevent the deterioration of the surroundings and ensure that this strategic infrastructure maintains an appropriate appearance.

Isidro Pérez emphasises in his statement that “César Manrique Airport is the main gateway to and from Lanzarote, and we want to contribute to ensuring that its surroundings are in the best possible condition, both from an environmental and aesthetic perspective, as we cannot allow the current image to persist.”

He also stresses that “this offer is made from institutional loyalty and a commitment to inter-administrative cooperation, convinced that the sum of efforts benefits the public and enhances the external image of our island.”

The San Bartolomé Town Council reminds us that the proper upkeep of its landscaped areas is essential not only for Lanzarote’s tourist image but also for the environmental and scenic quality of the municipality. “We have been working for years to ensure that the urban image minimally impacts the landscape, and this offer undoubtedly contributes to continuing this municipal initiative,” the mayor concludes.
