The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced that it will enhance surveillance in the Los Charcos de Valleseco area following an increase in vandalism incidents.

The measure will involve a greater presence of the Local Police and the restoration of damage caused over the past few weeks, as reported by the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, during a visit to the bathing area.

Commitment to Restoration

Bermúdez emphasised, “We have personally assessed the damage caused by those who do not respect a public space that belongs to everyone. Therefore, we will restore everything that has been broken, and we aim to complete this before December of this year.” He added that “the Local Police already have clear instructions to penalise anyone who fails to adhere to the usage regulations.”

Upgraded Infrastructure

Meanwhile, the first deputy mayor and councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, highlighted, “We will be replacing certain areas of this space with more durable materials to ensure longevity, such as railings, which will be replaced with steel ones, as well as the shower flooring, which will be improved.” He further noted, “We are still evaluating the cost of this restoration, but we are committed to completing it before the end of the year.”

Increased Security Measures

Gladis de León detailed that “in addition to replacing the damaged items, we will strengthen security and surveillance in the area, as we aim to protect those who do respect this space, who come here to enjoy a day of bathing with family or friends and to relish an environment we have restored for the city.”

The City Council is already managing the purchase and construction of the items that require replacement, with the goal of restoring the area to its optimal state in the coming weeks, some even entirely before the year ends.

Community Responsibility

Moreover, the council stresses the importance of responsible usage of these facilities, inviting all users to not only care for the environment but also to report any improper use of the space through the usual municipal communication channels.
